A Taste of Highland History

Sitting within the beautiful Balnespick Estate, just half an hour away from Inverness Airport, you’ll find a Bed and Breakfast accommodation that will make you feel welcome and comfortable instantly. The Mackintosh Family built Balvraid Lodge in the late 1800s and it was later extended in 1927.

This traditional shooting lodge is now available, after recent renovation, for you to book as holiday accommodation. This can be as either bed and breakfast, or self-catering. It offers accommodation for up to six people in three beautiful en-suite rooms.

You will have access to the Balnespick Estate, a sprawling 4500 acres of Highland scenery and crisp waters. Shooting trips can be arranged on the estate. Just get in touch with owners Dave and Fiona Thomson before you travel. However, depending on the time of year you visit, trips can include include grouse, pheasant, partridge, woodcock, hares and deer stalking.

For keen fishers the River Findhorn, which runs through estate, offers several miles of salmon and trout fishing. There’s even a hill loch where, if you’re lucky, you might catch some small trout. Again, please get in touch with the estate to check availability.

Balvraid Lodge and Balnespick Estate are situated just 25 minutes form Aviemore. This is a gorgeous little town which is well suited for people wishing to explore the Cairngorms. So Aviemore is a great place for people who love the outdoors, and has plenty of activities to suit. These range from water rafting and gorge walking to spending time with Britain’s only free-ranging herd of wild deer.

The lodge is only half an hour away from Loch Ness. This is one of the most famous loches in the world thanks to the (rather shy) monster that some say lives in its depths… The Lodge is also near to many whisky distilleries, often a must-see for many visitors to the Scottish Highlands.

And just at the northernmost tip of the Loch is Inverness, a beautiful city that you can walk around easily and explore Highland culture, life and food at your leisure. A stay at Balvraid Lodge Bed and Breakfast or self-catering is an excellent idea for your trip to the Scottish Highlands.
